The best ending I could have hoped for after the tour of mainland Spain. Staying in an ApartHotel in Alcudia, a return ferry trip from Barcelona and a rental car for the whole week for a cost of about 370 Euros per person (meals excluded). Searching carefully before leaving and with the goodwill to drive around the island you can reach dream beaches and coves...and you discover an island you don't expect.

Day 117 Aug 2010

Arrival in Mallorca

We disembark from the ferry at 7 in the morning and immediately take the bus headed to the airport where we rented a smart car for the whole week. Exhausted, we set off again for Port D'Alcudia, to settle into the apartment we booked. We cut across the entire island, too sleepy even to look around. We wait for lunchtime with a quick stop at the beach of Port D'Alcudia, having decided we won't see it again. It's a big beach full of families with children, equipped with every comfort but a bit far from our ideal of SEA. A long rest steals the whole afternoon from us but we decide to go right away to see the sunset at Cap De Formentor. Reaching the lighthouse is unmissable during a stay on the island. The sunset from here is wonderful. Evening in Pollenca.

Day 218 Aug 2010

Capdepera area

Today we begin the search for the best beaches in the Capdepera area. We had selected so many of them from Italy! We start with Cala Gat, very pretty, but rather crowded so we fall back on Cala Moltò. This cove is located behind a much more famous beach, serviced and crowded. You have to walk a bit, but it's worth it. There's no beach anymore, only rocks and small stretches where you can lay your towel but the cove is stupendous and you're practically alone. We end the day with a visit to the caves of Artà, but not before another swim at the little beach of Es Carregador. Evening in Port D'Alcudia.

Day 319 Aug 2010

Sierra de Tramuntana

Today we dedicate the whole day to the route that crosses the entire eastern side of the island, the wildest one dominated by the Sierra de Tramuntana. In the morning we go to the famous and wonderful beach of Sa Calobra. Even the road to get here is an adventure....the beach is very small, formed at the mouth of a torrent squeezed into a gorge. The water is crystal clear and of a turquoise difficult to forget. Arrive early and enjoy this place before the crowd arrives. At noon we fled for lack of living space...magic lost!!! Continuing along the road we stopped at the beautiful Cala Tuent. Here there are few people and the water takes on all the reflections of the abundant green that surrounds it. In the late afternoon we continued on to Deia, a village renowned for its calm and so far from the island atmosphere. Beautiful. We return to the hotel. Evening in Alcudia.

Day 420 Aug 2010

Pollenca area

We dedicated today to two splendid beaches in the Pollenca area. In the morning Cala San Vincent, actually made up of three different coves separated from each other, cala Molins, cala Clara and Cala Carbò. We stopped at Cala Clara, the prettiest and cleanest. A shame only for the wreckage of the Hotels built on the sea. In the afternoon we moved to Cala Formentor. The latter is truly beautiful and suitable for everyone since you can find both the equipped side and the non-equipped one. Before ending the day we treated ourselves to a walk through the streets of the village of Alcudia, very pretty and well preserved.

Day 521 Aug 2010

Alcudia Area

Today we decide to stay near Alcudia, where we discover the beaches of S'Illot (the most beautiful), Platia de San Joan, Alcanada. S'Illot is truly pleasant, not very crowded and very distinctive with the islet facing the beach reachable by swimming. From S'Illot it's worth continuing along the road to the end. There are numerous corners from which you enjoy a beautiful view.

Day 622 Aug 2010

Santanyi & Felanitx

Today a whole day dedicated to what in our opinion are the most beautiful beaches of the island, together with that of the sierra de tramuntana. Early in the morning we were already in the Santanyi area, where with a bit of difficulty we manage to find the road (or rather little road) that leads to S'Almunia. Leaving the car at the end of the road, a long flight of steps leads to the characteristic playa de Almunia, where there is no beach but access to the cove from the group of fisherman's houses facing the sea. We continue with a walk of about 20 min until the wonderful calo des moro opens up before our eyes. It is an arm of the sea squeezed between two walls of rock with simply fantastic water. To go down to the beach the access is not the easiest, but it is absolutely worth it.

Go early to find a spot and to enjoy the little cove before too many people arrive, since the beach is small. In the early afternoon we moved to the nearby area of Felanitx, where we absolutely did not want to miss Cala Mitjiana. This one too is not the easiest to find, due to the lack of clear signs. The road becomes unpaved and difficult to travel with an ordinary car, you have to do the last 2000 meters on foot. It is nevertheless a pleasant walk, shady and wooded. The cove is simply fabulous, in reality it seems like a stretch of private and little-known sea. Crystal-clear water and quiet become even more beautiful in the context of villas and golf courses that surround it. ABSOLUTELY A MUST-TRY.

Last Day...Sea Again & Palma

Today is the last day in Majorca. We still spend the day at the sea, choosing the Platia de San Pere, also in the Alcudia area. It's certainly not among the most beautiful but the sea is very nice. Unfortunately in the afternoon the suitcases are called for and we return to Palma, where we have dinner and where before returning the car we take a walk around the center. Certainly pretty, but apart from the Cathedral the impression is of a big city that, again in our opinion, doesn't suit the true spirit of the island; just like the area of Magaluff which we barely touched and deliberately avoided. Majorca surprised us since we found more than we could imagine. And surely everyone will be able to find just as much. Wild nature, beautiful sea but also many possibilities for those seeking nightlife.
