Given the various experiences and the useful info I found on this site, I too want to write about a trip to Minorca taken in 2007.
we were staying in a three-star hotel (hotel sur menorca) in Binibeca, a small village near Punta Prima beach..nothing special either as a beach or as waters. meanwhile, during the two weeks of holiday we did 3 days of excursions around the island and visited quite a few places:
ciutadella: ancient city but truly characteristic and full of monuments and old buildings. also worth doing the walk near the port, where you can also have a bite to eat. cala galdana: large but very crowded beach, waters with more or less gentle slopes but not very clear. all marred by excessive urbanisation. cala mitjana: the most beautiful beach on the island together with cala pregonda; beach more or less crowded and with fine sand, incredible sea..even at 6 in the afternoon. a must-visit. s'arenal d'en castell: wide and moderately crowded beach, sea immediately deep and not clear..there is better. cala macarella: beautiful and not very crowded beach, excellent sea, the only problem is the seaweed at the shore but afterwards you lose yourself in a turquoise and limpid sea. watch out for the wind. cala turqueta: beach with fine white sand and quite crowded..fantastic sea.
cala pregonda: exceptional beach if you arrive early in the morning. you cannot hear the slightest noise and you are in absolute peace. beach of bare red earth and steep sea but with an incredible transparency..if you look below while swimming you feel you are floating on nothing..fantastic. not to be missed for any reason.
I hope I have described my impressions in the best way..I will also post the photos of all the beaches (except the arenal d'en castell) and of ciutadella
