Santander....a very pretty little seaside town (they tell us it's among the wealthiest destinations in summer Spain), but certainly nothing exceptional. If it hadn't been for a friend of ours there on Erasmus we wouldn't even have passed through. All in all very nice Madrid, on the other hand, is another world A splendid city - architecture, art and Movida make it magnificent. Not to mention the people....waaayyyyyy too kind. If you ask for information, they take you there. Skip the pachà....of course if you go it's among the things to see....but I'd avoid it, better the little bars with the madrileños, who I repeat are exceptional Absolutely worth seeing. And absolutely cheap. Unlike Barcelona where they charge you even for the air. casa batllo sagrada familia (Gaudì is mad) beyond words.
Toledo, on the other hand, takes you back six hundred years - full Middle Ages and nothing has changed. And then it's only 60 km from Madrid
