We decide to spend our birthdays on the island of entertainment, only to discover that it has a beautiful sea, and we are less drawn to the nightclubs! We set off from Ciampino on a Ryanair flight, unfortunately with a not very good time since we landed at 16.00, but having booked only 5 days in advance it was the only flight still available.. arriving at the airport we take a taxi to San Antoni, where we had booked the hotel, even though there is a good bus network and from Italy we had decided precisely to take the bus that would take us to the central station of San Antoni...
but the haste to get to the beach was so great that we spent 25 euros and by 17.00 we had already dropped off our bags and were sunbathing!! After various searches on the internet we decide to take the hotel in the resort of San Antoni because it is full of evening entertainment and has very affordable prices as far as hotels go compared with Ibiza town... the sea in front isn't nice at all but we prefer to stay in this area because it's well served by public transport.
The hotel is Marco Polo, a 2-star hotel 100 m from the Columbus egg, 200 m from the sea and 200 m from the bus terminus (where the Discobus also passes) so an excellent position!! We took half board and I must say that breakfast was very abundant; as for dinner, nothing special but you can make do for a few days and then, considering how little we spent, it's more than fine (170 euros for both of us in half board for 2 nights). The hotel is clean but you'll never sleep since the doors were papier-mâché and the walls too... but being in Ibiza, budget for that from the start, there'll be chaos everywhere.. We organised our days like this.... The first day we arrived at the airport at 16.00... an hour later we were on the beach, but given the time we made do with the bay in front of the hotel, which as I said before is disappointing...
anyway nearby there's the little harbour where we took a walk and had an ice cream... a pleasant afternoon then.. in the evening dinner at the hotel and then we decide to take a stroll around the little harbour and see the area near us since in the evening it comes alive quite a bit.. near the port there are many restaurants, bars and market stalls, while going into the little alleys there are many clubs and pubs, shops of all kinds and lots and lots of people!!! We wake up early and decide to go and see Cala Tarida.. we take the bus this time (even though taxi prices are very low... you pay 90 cents per kilometre) the price of the buses varies depending on the resort you want to reach but the price always hovers around 1 euro and 20 cents...
the punctuality of the timetables is impeccable!! From San Antoni to Cala Tarida it's about a 30-minute journey, the bus leaves us 50 m from the staircase that leads down to the beach... the view is guaranteed! A sea in fantastic turquoise tones.. in a very beautiful natural setting, a shame though about the too many restaurants that spoil the landscape a little and about the wind we found... anyway the little cove is very very beautiful, there are free beach areas and areas equipped with umbrellas and sunloungers... for lunch we decide to go to one of those restaurants on the beach called, I think, Posto del Sol or something like that... anyway you'll recognise it because it's white and you have to climb the stairs to get there...
there's a beautiful view over the beach and we ate an excellent paella (we only had the paella de marisco for two and a bottle of water and paid 45 euros so not very cheap)... the service is veryyyy slow so arm yourself with patience.. after lunch we decide to take a last swim at Cala Tarida and change beach and go to see Cala Salada which is near the bay of San Antoni, so we take the bus back to the terminus and with a 10-minute taxi ride we reach Cala Salada (the bus doesn't get there)... as soon as we arrive we're a bit disappointed but following the little path along the cliff you reach a very beautiful and clean sea spot where we stop and spend the rest of the afternoon.. an important tip.. the phone doesn't get a signal there so it was impossible to call the taxi for the return..
we didn't know that so we set off walking to look for a spot with signal but after several km the phone managed to call but nobody answered the taxi number!! In the end we walked about 5 km uphill to find the first bar that called us a taxi and explained that if they see mobile numbers they don't answer at all.. I advise you to try calling from the cove and if you too don't get a signal stop at the bar in Cala Salada and ask them to call a taxi because then the next bar will be 5 km away all uphill!!!!! After this long walk we arrive in the evening exhausted so our evening at the disco is off:( anyway after having dinner at the hotel we decide to take a stroll to Eivissa and by bus we reach Dalt Vilà which would be the medieval village in the centre of the town, very characteristic but all uphill!!! So comfortable shoes please! Below the medieval town there's total chaos...
so many people.. clubs upon clubs and at a certain time the parades advertising the disco nights begin... lots of little souvenir shops and market stalls along the port with bars and restaurants. On the way back we take a taxi again, given the tiredness we don't even feel like waiting for the bus..... A rich breakfast and for the last day we go to see Cala Comta... a direct bus that in half an hour from San Antoni takes us to the beach... much much more beautiful than Cala Tarida.. it's one of the most famous beaches for admiring the sunset... the photos you'll see speak for themselves.. there's the Sunset bar and diner located right by the bay that serves lunches at very low prices.. today the weather is on our side so calm sea except for the moments when the damned jet skis passed by...
many people practise nudism here!!! After a very pleasant day at the sea unfortunately we have to head back to the hotel because at 21.00 we have our flight.. The hotel provides departing guests with a shower, very handy for those like us who no longer have a right to the room since it must be left at 12.00 but who have nonetheless spent a day at the sea!! This time we go to the airport by bus, which as I told you is very punctual, cheap and an excellent alternative to the taxis that we practically abused given that we were staying only a few days and were in a hurry!!! In about 45 minutes it took us to our terminal and off toward Rome... very tired but very satisfied to have discovered an Ibiza outside the clichés of an island of entertainment and nothing else..
