Four of us set off, the usual four: me, Bello, Radio Ravenna and Guido. Until half an hour before the train left Milan's central station we didn't know where we were going. We said to each other: “let's go to the station and take a random train to a random destination…” and so it was. We got to the station around 10 pm, where Bello, as usual, was undecided about everything; Guido and I saw there was a train leaving for Paris. New Year's Eve in Paris wouldn't be bad, but Stefano didn't like it. In the end we took the train to Verona to head east. Bello's destination was Bratislava. But we never got there. Guido's destination was Prague. But we never got there. Mine was Transylvania. We got close. Ravenna, as usual, was trying to figure out where he was… We arrived in Venice around 3 am and luckily managed to stay on the train parked there, where we spent the night.
The next morning, after one glance (just one) at Venice, we boarded the train for Ljubljana. In the Slovenian capital we met a landlord at the station. We settled into a nice room and stayed 2 nights. Ljubljana is a beautiful city that, covered in snow in winter, has a particular charm. You eat very well at Sokol, at Ciril Metodov Trg 18, practically a side street inside on the eastern bank of the Ljubljanica river. The place is truly full of character. For fun there are venues to suit every taste. Along the river there are many little stalls where in winter you drink mulled wine and sing… at least we sang..
Day 131 Dec 2005
5 pm, Ljubljana station
Here the first little arguments begin: Bello wants to go to Bratislava but it’s out of the question. No one wants to spend New Year’s midnight on a train. We see that there’s a train to Zagreb; it will leave at 17:45 and arrive in the Croatian capital around 20:30. It’s ours!!!! Let’s buy the tickets!!!
