Vienna is barely an hour by train from Bratislava. Finding myself in the Austrian capital, could I not take advantage of this opportunity to visit the "small great city"? The Austrian railways offer a package that includes the return train journey plus public transport in Bratislava for only 14 euros. From Vienna's Sudbahnhof station, trains leave every hour for Bratislava's central station (note: from the Sudbahnhof metro you have to go back up to the surface and walk about 100 metres on the left towards the Ostbahn station...). Once at Bratislava station, with bus 93 you reach the centre in a few minutes (just 2 stops). If you do not have a map, it will be very difficult to find a city guide.
Apart from the INFO POINT behind the Town Hall, only in a shop near Michael's Gate did I find a usable map..., Worth seeing: obviously the castle, which dominates Bratislava from above and is easily reached on foot. Worth seeing are the BLUE church and St Martin's Cathedral. The markets are in the theatre square and in front of the Town Hall; the prices of souvenirs are much lower than in nearby Vienna. With a few euros you can taste the local specialities. The whole city can be visited in half a day. Even the tourists least inclined to move around can afford a day like the one I spent.
