The story

Renting a car in Moscow is simple and fairly quick, and you can go and visit these two gems of what is commonly called the Golden Ring. The roads are not in great condition and the Russians are used to speeding, but with a little caution it is not at all dangerous. Watch out for checkpoints, they are extremely numerous and the police are rather strict and do not speak English; do not commit any offences and make it clear that you don't speak Russian. You won't have any problems, but if they really are reluctant to let you go... horrible to say... leave a little something for the policeman on duty. Sadly that's how it is. As soon as you leave Moscow you will discover another country, immense and beautiful, inhabited by people very different from Muscovites. Suddenly it is like being catapulted back in time, into a distant but, unlike Moscow, welcoming world. Suzdal is a true gem.

Sergiev Posad is the most important pilgrimage destination for the Orthodox. Don't miss them!
