The quickest and cheapest way to reach Africa?? Naturally via Moscow with Aeroflot. And as if that weren't enough, during the month of January with a temperature swing of about 60 degrees (Moscow 19 degrees below zero and Dakar 40 degrees). In any case, a good thing was the chance of a 2-day stop in Moscow, which let us discover a few corners of this magnificent and fascinating city, even if in the full era of decline and austerity.
The Moscow metro was opened on 15 May 1935. The length of the first line was 11 km. At present the total length of the eleven lines is 246 km. The first construction of the Moscow metro began in 1913. The First World War and then the Revolution of 1917 put an end to all the works. Only in the 1930s did the idea of the metro come to fruition. For the construction of the pavilions and stations, granite and marble were used; for the interiors, steel, mosaics, stained glass and wrought iron were also employed.
