Departure

After a couple of hours by train we arrive at Rome Fiumicino, take care of the check-in formalities, and at around 1:30 p.m. our TAP flight bound for Porto takes off right on time. About three hours of a smooth flight and we land, again right on time. We collect our luggage in the ultra-modern Portuguese terminal in very little time and pick up the car at Avis, a short distance from the airport: a black Fiat Grande Punto. Straight on the road, destination Coimbra. It isn't difficult to find your way around the historic university city, so much so that we manage to find a hostel right in the centre, very clean and cheap. We take a shower and then off we go, to explore the small, wonderful centre of the town on foot. An excellent fish dinner, a little chat with the friendly waiter, and then to bed.
