The story

A little town at the foot of the mountain range of the same name, with numerous extraordinary and at the same time strange palaces: the Paço Real, characterised by its two enormous chimneys, the Castelo dos Mouros, built in the 8th century by the Arabs and of which only the perimeter walls remain, and the Palacio Nacional da Pena, a mixture of styles that is somewhat reminiscent of Ludwig's fairy-tale castle in Bavaria. If you have foot problems, use the taxi and then the shuttle; all over Portugal you can agree routes with taxi drivers (like guided tours) and the prices are really modest!
