One week in Portugal, where we arrived with a rental car in Santiago de Compostela. From the beautiful capital Lisbon, we made our way up touching Fatima, Porto, Barcelos, Braga and the little gem of Guimaraes. Portugal was a discovery I hadn't imagined. Its cuisine is unforgettable, absolutely worth trying. You'll find everything and on a tight budget.
Having rented a car, we spent the first two days in Lisbon. Beautiful. Very Beautiful. A stroll through Alfama and the trattorias of Bairro Alto are not to be missed. The cuisine is exceptional and cheap. You absolutely must try the porco à alentejana!
With a short stop in Fatima we arrived in Porto. Despite the decay of many buildings declared UNESCO heritage sites, the whole is truly peculiar and fascinating. The quais da Ribeira and Vila Nova de Gaia with the port distilleries are stunning. Watch out for your valuables. Thefts, unfortunately even by children, are very numerous in the Vila Nova de Gaia area
North of Porto we visited: Barcelos where you can buy the lucky rooster and visit the incredible market...a leap into the past. Braga Bom Jesus do Monte Guimaraes: a jewel
From here we took the flight back to Italy. Just a brief visit. It's beautiful to attend the pilgrim's mass.
