On our way back from the Baltic states.. we stopped again at Auschwitz.. we had already seen it years ago during our trip around Poland, but I asked to stop again: being a history enthusiast, I wanted to see the place of weeping once more... the main concentration camp ever to exist in the world. It's not about saying it's beautiful or ugly... unfortunately there is nothing beautiful about it once you know the facts.. you only ask yourself how a man, a people, could have done all this almost 60 years ago. Visiting the barracks, entering where people entered at the time, and seeing the relics of the people that are still preserved, brings a sense of unease, of pain, of anger.. and you can do nothing but walk around and realise, imagining for yourself what really happened in the extermination camps... in strict silence, out of respect for the thousands of people who died there.
I will certainly return again.. it is a journey that really makes you think how lucky you are to have everything now.. and perhaps not to have been born a few years earlier...
