Used first of all as a cheap crossing to reach the Croatian coast by ferry from Bari, Montenegro already from reading the first travel diaries seemed a destination where I would spend more than just a few hours. So I decide to book a night online in Kotor. Thanks to the punctuality of the Montenegro Lines ferry, at 7 in the morning I start climbing a mountain (with the car loaded at Bari) to reach Ostrog and its monastery carved into the rock. Roads that remind me of Scottish single-track roads, with one lane for both directions: the joy and torment of my by now usual travelling companion are the hairpin bends sheer above the sea, which risk giving her a heart attack, but which let you admire the spectacle of the southernmost fjords in EUROPE.
Among the coastal towns, while Sveti Stefan left me almost indifferent, the towns of Budva and Kotor are remarkable, both protected by high walls, with Kotor winning more favour thanks to its enviable position on the fjord and its fortress reachable by climbing just 1,300 steps!!
