The Principality of Monaco is a sovereign and independent state, located in the French department of Alpes-Maritimes. Going from west to east it borders the following communes: Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, Beausoleil, La Turbie, Cap-d'Ail. To the south it overlooks the Mediterranean Sea. The population of the Principality is about 30,000 inhabitants, of whom only 5,000 are Monegasque. The others are divided as follows: 12,000 French, 5,000 Italians. From a recent census it has emerged that it has a very high population density, unique in the world, of about 15,000 inhabitants per sq km over an area of just 195 hectares. In the Principality there is only one commune, Monaco, which therefore has the same borders as the state.
As for the climate: mild in winter, in fact average temperatures in January and February hover around 8°C; not excessively hot in summer, since July and August record average temperatures of about 25°C. Over the year the average temperature settles at around 16°C, with a huge predominance of sunny days over rainy ones.
