A brief visit to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg

Day 110 Aug 2002

The real destination of our trip is Holland, but to break up the journey we decide to make a short stop in Luxembourg; in fact one day was more than enough since the state is not that big. On the first day of travel we crossed France and decided to stop in the evening to stay overnight in Thionville, practically a few km from the border with Luxembourg and, here too as in past experiences in France and Austria, we choose a hotel chain for overnight stays (the chain in question is "Campanile" hotels with several rooms, possibility of choice between smoking and non-smoking, restaurant available with also several options between buffet of appetizers or desserts, with a second course of your choice, obviously don't look for first courses, since beyond the Italian border they don't exist and therefore better not to risk it).

The following day we are ready for the visit to Luxembourg, capital of this small state that is precisely a grand duchy; unfortunately the weather is not the best but we are optimistic and in fact it doesn't rain all day, so we wander around the decidedly tidy and very clean city, quiet and with a bit of life only in the streets of the center where we even come across a small crowd gathered to watch a street performers' show, with children dreaming and entertained by the tricks offered by the skilled artists. In the afternoon we reach Echternach, a pretty little town not far away and very touristy. The following day we continue our journey towards Holland.
