At the end of September I discover that Ryan is about to launch the Rome Ciampino-Bari route and, without thinking too much, I decide to go and spend a day with my little cousin. I find a decent deal for early November at 42 euros. I had never been to Palese airport and I must say it was a great thrill to land between the sea and the olive trees! This airport too, like others in Italy, has recently come out of a good renovation and expansion and I must say it doesn't seem at all small to me. The city centre can be reached with public buses, for the cost of a normal ticket, which run every hour, or with a private line, which runs more frequently and takes a shorter route, but costs a few euros more. Both leave you at the Station, so in a strategic position and with no traffic they take 20/25 minutes.
I thought of this "trip" also with the intention of strolling in the centre of the old city, which I don't know, because until a few years ago it was inadvisable to venture into that web of little alleys, and which I know to be very beautiful. I will not be disappointed: Apulian Romanesque is one of my favourite styles, the churches are magnificent and so is the Castle, while the intimate setting in which these monuments are placed enhances their magnificence. The impression, although the sky wasn't the usual Apulian blue that I love so much, and which in my view is unique and priceless, is that this really is wonderful white stone on the sea. The usual watchword: how marvellous Italy is!
