To the notes of De Andrè - Vino in rosa under the stars
The pleasure and sense of harmony you feel while tasting a glass of good wine as you admire the gentle hills of the breathtaking landscape of Alto Monferrato undoubtedly has something profoundly feminine about it. The poetry that nestles in the aromas of the wines of these areas is female. The beauty of the rows of vines, the grape clusters and the old barrels, but also the efficiency of modern cellars, evokes the image of industrious women, who have always known how to combine romance, seduction, cheerfulness and practical sense. The women of these places are wives, mothers, but also, often, wine-growing entrepreneurs. It is precisely to them that the event Vino in rosa is dedicated, which this year reaches its eighth edition and will be held on Friday 11 June.
The event, which changes format every year by introducing novelties compared with previous editions, in 2010 will be inspired by the music of Fabrizio De Andrè and the charm of the starry sky. The poetic notes that the Genoese singer-songwriter dedicated to the world of women are endless, and the choice to dedicate this edition of Vino in rosa to him is also a way of ideally recreating that great Liguria whose borders reach as far as the hills of Alto Monferrato end. The soundtrack to the event will be one of De Andrè's most famous songs, Creuza de ma, and if we are talking about emotions, it certainly won't stop at music: the pleasure of the palate will also be ensured thanks to the chef who will cook typical Ligurian dishes inspired by the foods De Andrè mentions in the song: fried small fish, lasagne to be cut with four sauces, sweet-and-sour hare pie...
All of it, naturally, washed down with the best wines produced by the farms of Carpeneto and its surroundings, run by women, but not only.
The women, as we know, are also romantic and sometimes like to entrust their dreams and wishes to the stars: the starry sky will in fact enchant the visitors of Vino in rosa, shown and skilfully explained by a local association of amateur astronomers: the stars too, like women, are protagonists of De Andrè's songs, just think of the Canzone di Marinella ('but the Sun that saw her so beautiful, carried her from the river up to a star').
The event takes place in a very particular location: the evocative Tenuta Cannona, owned by the Cassone family from 1600 until 1980 and taken over by the Region of Piedmont in 1985. Today Tenuta Cannona is the Viticultural Experimental Centre of the Region of Piedmont. Its territory extends over 54 hectares, 20 of which are cultivated with experimental vineyards. Starting from the 1980s, following land reclamation works, the vineyards were re-established by planting numerous varieties with different combinations of clones and rootstocks. Thus a viticultural experimental centre unique in Piedmont was created, where, alongside purely viticultural and oenological experimentation, research activities such as land management and plant-health treatments are carried out.
The Centre is geared towards research and experimentation to foster a better comparative knowledge of the characteristics and behaviour of the different grape varieties and to provide results that can be adopted at a production level. An integrated system of experimentation, dissemination and updating for technicians in the sector, with attention to the conservation and enhancement of wine-growing environments.
The manor building, in whose courtyard the event takes place and of which a church, still consecrated, is also part, is an architectural jewel of notable historical and artistic value. The decorations, the wooden friezes and the stuccos are particularly well preserved.
