When you decide to go to the Oltrepò for wineries, a mandatory stop is La Tenuta Scarpa Colombi in Bosnasco. Roberto and Maria Teresa, like true hosts, always know how to offer you the best and make you feel the best of customers, and let's not forget, lately estates like this in Lombardy are no longer to be found. In fact the Scarpa Colombi "palazzo" was built towards the end of the 1600s on the ruins of an ancient castle, and today, thanks to a careful renovation personally overseen by the owners, it is one of the jewels of the Oltrepò. The inner courtyard is a beautiful expression of late-eighteenth-century Italian architecture with granite columns and masonry vaults. The large tasting room, distinctive for its oak barrels, welcomes us visitors in an evocative setting, rich in history and tradition.
The wines held in the barrels and in the cellar range from traditional reds (Barbera, Bonarda, Pinot Nero, Sangue di Giuda) to whites (Pinot Nero vinified as white, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Nero Brut, Moscato) to the much sought-after and particular Chardonnay Rosè, Cruasè, Blanc de Blanc; without forgetting that Maria Teresa and Roberto also have an estate in Piedmont, so for those who are not satisfied with the grapes of the Oltrepò you can also taste an excellent Barbera d'Asti or the incomparable Passito di Moscato from Piedmont. If one Sunday you decide to go for a trip out of town in search of old traditions, the Scarpa Colombi palazzo also houses a fantastic restaurant with typical Pavia and Piacenza cuisine....don't forget it, "LA Buta", and in this case too Carlo and his staff will know how to make you feel immediately among friends.
