Almost all children are passionate about trains and Matteo is no exception, so, intrigued by an article I found on the internet, I organised this short trip to Savigliano in the province of Cuneo, where the Piedmontese railway museum is based. Inside the museum you can admire fine still-working locomotives, which are sometimes used for short journeys. Unfortunately you're not allowed to climb on the trains, as the child would have so wished; you can, however, admire model steam locomotives, goods wagons, postal passenger carriages and little trains, as well as some fine model layouts — there's a really big one that's set running on Saturday afternoons. We all really enjoyed the museum; the visit lasted just over an hour.
I'd advise anyone who'd like to see it to check the opening times carefully, which are as follows: Thursday 2.30pm-5.30pm Saturday 10am-12pm and 2.30pm-5.30pm Sunday 10am-12pm and 2.30pm-5.30pm
It's possible to combine the railway museum visit with one to the beautiful Savoy residence of Racconigi (16 km) or with a dip in the pool at the Le Cupole water park in Carmagnola (about 6 km)
