To best handle the Sunday heatwave, the best solution is to take refuge in the cool of a botanical garden. Destination Ninfa (LT), a little under an hour’s drive from home. The Oasis is the perfect symbiosis between man and nature. In 1957 it was declared an area of public interest, in 1973 it became a WWF Oasis, and the garden of Ninfa was later declared a “natural monument”. The garden contains numerous plants of every kind, coming from all over the world, including the Japanese maple, bamboo and the Canadian fir, all blending in among the springs and the ruins of the medieval village. The ruins still visible belong to various types of buildings: the churches (there were five: Santa Maria Maggiore, San Giovanni, San Biagio, San Pietro and San Paolo), the tower, the walls, the gates and the houses.
The guided visit lasts about 1 hour 30 minutes and lets you enter the complex, immense world of botany. The icing on the cake comes with the Agriturismo Il Quadrifoglio, a few minutes’ drive from the Oasis. The menu is fixed (€25 adults, €15 children) and consists of a starter, two first courses, one second course, two side dishes, dessert and coffee. Drinks are extra. NOTE: be prepared for a long sitting, as the dishes are brought out in sequence to all the diners.
Thanks to Roberta & Alex for sharing this pleasant outing with us.
