Today the group from Archeoclub d'Italia, Ragusa branch, heads towards ancient HIMERA, the westernmost Greek outpost in western Sicily, founded by the Chalcidians of Zancle in 648 BC - we will visit the Temple of Victory of 480 BC - the urban layout that takes shape on the hill - the antiquarium with the famous "phials" of solid gold weighing almost a kilogram - lunch will be had at the very nearby restaurant Trattoria Himera, run by Mr. Mario Genovese, tel. 091.8140005 - always super-fresh fish and delicious dishes - reasonable prices. The afternoon is devoted to visiting the fishing village of Cefalù, where we will see the ancient megalithic walls, the Cathedral, the Mandralisca museum with paintings by Antonello da Messina and more, and the very interesting historic centre; a lovely finale, in the evening, with fireworks for a patron-saint festival.
