first day
I look at the October shifts... a free weekend, hooray... we decide where to go... Verona, sold. Immediately we look for the hotel with trovato! Hotel Best Western Soave in San Bonifacio, two nights in a double room with breakfast, 106 euros. We book right away! We leave Friday evening and arrive at the hotel at 22:00, the hotel is very easy to find after the Soave S. Bonifacio highway exit, immediately to the left and after a short while you find the Hotel. The staff very kind and helpful. The room clean, tidy and the breakfast in the morning has no equal!! On Saturday we go to visit Verona, beautiful but unfortunately I also found many disadvantages, for example the smell... the dirt... the rudeness of the people... but the places are beautiful, especially the Arena.
The ticket is 6 euros, and you can visit the interior, then we continue towards Castelvecchio, piazza delle Erbe, and then along the Adige towards the Roman theater and the archaeological museum. From here the panorama is very striking! I haven't told you yet that in Verona there was a kind of Bit of the Verona province, we were lucky. There were 50 food and wine stands and more... we go through them all... we taste an excellent Valpolicella superiore, a Recioto and a Soave. (We buy a bottle of each). We taste a very good cheese, I don't remember the name well, I think Monteveneto ubriaco... but I'm not sure. Ubriaco because it is aged in grapes. Truly excellent. We also buy a loaf of bread and we make a good snack with bread and cheese... We also visit the tourism stands and discover that the next day there was the Chestnut festival in San Mauro in Saline... and we decide to go.
We take another tour of Verona and we couldn't miss seeing the famous balcony of Juliet... The next day we get up, have breakfast and then leave for the town of Soave to visit the Castle. You can access it on foot, a quarter of an hour from the parking lot or arrive by car up to the entrance. We decide to take a walk to burn off the abundant breakfast. The entrance is 5 euros. The castle is very well preserved and you can walk around freely. You can also walk on the arrow slits and enjoy a very striking view. Unfortunately there is neither a guide nor information panels.. they should put them in. After the visit we take the road to the Chestnut Festival. After about 45 minutes (the road is very winding, be careful) we arrive at this small town, we find parking with difficulty and begin visiting the stalls. There are the classic toys and sweets but we are interested in...
we want the food and wine stalls... and we get there. We decide to have lunch there... it was by then 3 pm... I eat polenta with cheese and Luca the pizza, we drink a nice glass of wine and then another round... we buy the chestnuts... 3 kg 18 euros!! Walking around we also find the gentleman who was there the day before in Verona who sold us the wine... It was a truly interesting weekend! We hope to do more!!! Until the next trip.
