Sunday 27-6-04 we retraced the Easter Monday 2004 route, this time on motorbikes!!
PARTICIPANTS: PD alone TEK with Simone ENZO
Afternoon departure, around 14.00, the usual meeting point at BOFFA!! Little traffic, we set off calmly with Tek in the lead (every km he asks whether the road is the right one!)
Straight to Varese, then through ValGanna. Worth admiring are the caves and the lake of Ghirla, where plenty of people are sunbathing, as well as producing masterly smells and flavours with ribs and chops!! Bar stop to ask for info about a petrol station... and could the usual little beer fail to appear?? About 50 fishermen are rewarding themselves at a fishing competition; then, the owner tells us, they'll go fishing again!!
50 lonely wives and mothers-in-law left at home??? I DON'T THINK SO!!! Ha ha!!!
Climb in first/second gear to reach the San Michele pass, with tree branches that have fun whipping the bike and helmet!! Dirty road with a lot of gravel!!
Stop at the refreshment point for a board of cold cuts and the usual beers!! Milanese restaurant prices!! Uff!! Coffee and off we go, descending the other side towards Luino!! In Luino there's a vintage motorbike race in the centre = centre blocked = endless queues along the lakeside for at least 10 km!!! But we have the motorbike!! We take the road home and find ourselves at the Swiss customs at Fornasette: we look at the map and apparently it doesn't EXIST!!! Then we decide to go into Switzerland and only after 5 minutes manage to come back into Italy, gaining nerve-wracking minutes by overtaking the queue of cars in Luino!!
We head home. This time too we made it!!
