hi everyone, I wanted to share with you a lovely trip we took over the Easter holidays. We are Giovanni and Valeria and, on the advice of friends, we decided to spend these holidays in Sicily. We chose the western part because of the convenience offered by Trapani airport. We left on the morning of 20/03 at 06.15 and, having arrived at our destination after about an hour's flight, we picked up the car we had booked online. We had an appointment in the afternoon with the B&B Gadir, so we took advantage of the time available to visit Marsala since it was on the way. It was, already in the morning, an intoxicating day, because while visiting the Florio wineries right in Marsala we had breakfast with cheeses, cured meats and an excellent "kadoz". We arrived around lunchtime, visiting the characteristic Punic ship, and after eating some excellent fish we moved on to Mazara del Vallo.
Here we met Valerio and Angelica, the owners of the B&B, who welcomed us by offering us Sicilian cannoli accompanied by a good coffee. (here they would have exclaimed: MINCHIA!!!) We had chosen this B&B after seeing the photos on the internet, but we didn't think that in person it would be even better. In fact, besides the cleanliness and the service of those who run it, this property is right in the centre of the town where the after-dinner life takes place. Back to the trip, we closed the day by eating a fabulous swordfish pizza. The following day we went to visit Trapani, the salt pans and their museum, where we ate everything based on sardines and aubergines; in the afternoon, instead, we spent time on Monte Erice, from which we could admire the breathtaking landscape offered by the Egadi archipelago.
Back at the base and full from our afternoon lunch, we asked Angelica for a suggestion for a light dinner and, to our continued amazement, we discovered another speciality of this place: GELATO or even better BRIOCHE WITH GELATO. On Saturday morning we rested a little longer and decided to visit two nearby archaeological sites, Selinunte and Segesta. Again on the advice of the B&B guys we packed a picnic lunch and literally immersed ourselves in the past!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (it can't be described). As it was Saturday evening we decided to go and eat fish and we really satisfied our craving with a grill of scampi, squid, king prawns (few because they're expensive) and red mullet. SHOWSTOPPING. On Sunday morning we had breakfast, as always, at the bar that has an arrangement with the B&B (where there's everything from savoury to sweet) and we went to mass in the cathedral.
Something to make your head spin upwards with how baroque and majestic it is. As it was the last day we devoted it to visiting Mazara and we discovered a town rich in history (the diocesan museum and the museum of the dancing satyr), but not loved by its own inhabitants. We also asked where the summer takes place and Valerio and Angelica took us both to the beach of "Tonnarella" and to the rocks of "Quarara". I think summer holidays here are a lot of fun, given what goes on on Saturday nights until late. The time has come to say goodbye, we'll carry these beautiful memories with us and we'll recommend our friends to come here and it's also for this reason that we wanted to share this experience of ours with you. bye until the next trip
