The story

In this region I have been many times, both in transit towards other destinations and for work and tourism. After all, Lazio contains Italy's capital, which, however, I discuss in another itinerary. Lazio is very different from Rome; in the north the Maremma plain continues from neighbouring Tuscany and projects towards the capital. In the province of Viterbo, Lake Bolsena is set in the crater of an extinct volcano; on its shores the locality of the same name preserves the church where the Miracle of the consecrated host took place, from which the blood of Christ issued. A stone's throw from the lake, perched on a hill, is Montefiascone, where as a child I came on a trip with my paternal grandparents. During the same bus tour we also went to the characteristic Monterotondo.

Returning to the province of Viterbo, I should mention that as a child I went with my uncles to visit my cousin, a soldier, at Monte Romano, which allowed me to see some Etruscan monuments at Tarquinia from outside the fence. In the province of Rome, the Villa of Tivoli is very beautiful, with a park rich in pools and fountains. Downstream, Bagni di Tivoli gives off a smell of rotten eggs to which you grow accustomed only after days. On the coast I have been to the beach of Furbara, at Torvaianica and Pomezia. In the area of the Roman hills, Genzano was the destination of a quick visit of mine. In the far south of the region stands out Cassino, where as a child I went on a trip with my mother. In the surroundings there is the British military cemetery in memory of the battle that took place during the Second World War.

The hill dominating the town houses the famous Sanctuary, destroyed by the bombing of the Second World War and skilfully rebuilt. For Rome see "Rome"
