Last weekend my wife Carla and I, along with a couple of friends, went to the Cilento for our first experience on a quad bike. The idea of booking this excursion came from my wife; at first, being a lover of nature and trekking, the idea didn't appeal to me much, but I have to admit I was proved wrong. A quad bike driven in a certain way (along already-marked dirt tracks) doesn't, I think, do any damage and lets you visit enchanting places. We set off from the tourist harbour of Agropoli, where they handed us the quads and the various accessories. Luigi, the guide from Cilento Adventure, instructed us by taking us along trails of varying difficulty. The route followed a dirt track along the coast south of Agropoli, often sheer above the sea and among the ruins of watchtowers built to defend the coast from Saracen raids.
The places, and above all the sea, are indescribable: the marine reserve of the Vallone, Punta Tresino, Punta Licosa. This stretch of the Cilento coast has stayed in my heart. I'll certainly repeat the experience in summer, so I'll also get the chance to swim in that sea which for now I've only been able to admire.
