19 Oct 07 - Friday Unfortunately we wake up to a thunderstorm, so we decide to head straight to Erice, hoping the weather will improve, as usually happens in Sicily. We climb up along the hairpin bends to the bus and camper car park at Porta Spada; among the clouds it's just us!! But the weather is kind to us and the sun comes out. We visited Erice very calmly, with only a few groups of English tourists and very few "solitary" ones; the churches - the castle of Venus - the Cyclopean walls - the Cathedral, a romantic and silent tour, broken only by some murmuring or the chimes of a bell tower! In the afternoon we return to the gulf of Capo San Vito to enjoy an "unforgettable" sunset. And the lovely day continues in the evening: in San Vito there's the "blue fish" festival, complete with music and folk shows, nothing better to round off a "spectacular" day.

20 October 07 - Saturday In San Vito it's raining, so we go to Mozia, where once again a splendid sunny day greets us - we park near the Motya jetty, where an overnight stop is also possible. The little ferry takes us to the island in a short crossing. A visit to the Whitaker Museum is a must; thanks to him the archaeological site was discovered and enhanced. The ruins blend with lush vegetation to form a wonderful whole. A tour of the salt pans and the salt museum, then spaghetti with seafood that are nothing short of exceptional; we chat with the restaurant owner and discover that he lived for a few years in Pesaro (we live 30 km away) and Rimini playing football for the local teams.

We slowly head down towards Marsala and Mazara del Vallo; around 6 pm we're at Selinunte, the archaeological site is closing, so after doing some shopping in a small supermarket we go to the Athena campsite at Marinella di Selinunte; the welcome is warm and the campsite is very tidy and well laid out, there are around ten campers, a lot for this time of year!
