One day is certainly not enough to discover the secrets, the curiosities, the beauties of one of the Italian cities I hold dearest... and what can I say about the innate friendliness and warmth of its people?
Here I came across one of the hottest days, one of those that go down in the record temperatures of late summer... a full 38 degrees!! During the day it was almost impossible to go out in the scorching heat, but a walk through Piazza Municipio, via Chiaia and via Medina is an inevitable draw.
The Hotel Mediterraneo where we are staying (we are an airline crew) is right behind the imposing bulk of Castel Nuovo, also known as Maschio Angioino, one of the most important castles in Italy, a few steps from the port of Naples, commissioned at the end of the 1200s by Charles of Anjou and today the seat of the City Council as well as of the Neapolitan Society of Homeland History and the Civic Museum.
A strategic position also for taking advantage of the last of the sales and devoting yourself to shopping (Naples has some of the best shoe shops, both for choice and for the quality of the prices!), if only to refresh yourself with a bit of air conditioning.......
In the evening, a very good pizza (they say it's the best in Naples): I recommend the pizzeria da Michele (master pizzaioli since 1870) at via Sersale 1/3 (corner of via Colletta); be patient because you'll always find a very long but fast-moving queue... it's worth it, jammé!

da via roma, camminando verso est, avresti dovuto svoltare in uno di quei vicoli che ti trovi a sinistra... le scoperte sarebbero state di altro genere... ciao un abbraccio. paolo
