For the second year running we are in Viareggio to experience the carnival; an extremely fun weekend, which begins in the late afternoon on Saturday when the avenue along which the grand parade of floats takes place on Sunday is stormed by thousands of people in costume, giving life to a long night of songs, dancing and jokes. We, for this edition too, positioned ourselves near the Darsena, a few steps from the port. Here there is an authentic open-air kitchen where you can taste everything from fried fish to spaghetti with cuttlefish ink, to other delicacies, freshly cooked. Meanwhile the floats (authentic travelling discos), loaded with masked people, travel the streets with a dancing following of children, teenagers and adults. On Sunday afternoon everyone on the avenue to admire the splendid works of art of the papier-mâché craftsmen.
Of course Viareggio is not only the Carnival, it's not for nothing that I like to spend a few days there in summer too: the atmosphere of Lake Massaciuccoli is splendid, its beaches relaxing, some of its venues star-studded, the nature that leads us as far as Lucca fresh and soothing... For me it's a magical place...
