The trip to Lampedusa was unforgettable! An island outside everything and everyone. Geographically much closer to Tunisia than to Sicily, and you can tell just by looking at the vegetation, which practically does not exist, as it is very arid, almost entirely desert. It is a little piece of land of only 20 sq km, scorched by the sun almost all year round, resting in the middle of a sea with water that is still crystal clear. To see the whole of Lampedusa one day is enough, even though the reason to come here is not really that, but rather the sun, the beaches and above all the fantastic sea in all its colours..
it really feels like being in another world, or at least on the other side of the earth, and yet it takes just a 2-hour flight from Milan to be on the island, with no censorship, no laws and above all no receipts! But all this doesn't matter to us, in fact I got used to it at once, and so off we went on a quad, two of us, without helmets, in front of the police, who don't give a damn about it as of course nobody else does either! In Lampedusa a week is enough, also because there isn't much to do apart from going out on a boat, diving, sunbathing until you burn, riding around on the same quad (rented for 7 days, 120 euros + petrol at 1.50 euros a litre), a bit of singing and dancing (at most), and strolling along Via Roma past the shops, looking at all those spectacular tanned beauties! Ahem...
back to the trip, for those who don't snorkel I recommend at least getting a mask and an underwater camera. I bought mine at Esselunga, a Canon for 20 photos, about 15 euros, and I assure you they come out well! Ah.. while you're taking photos in the water, watch out for jellyfish. This part of the sea really has a lot of them. They are mostly small and black. Still, a widespread belief needs to be debunked a bit, the one about the hives that a jellyfish causes on contact with the skin. If you touch them with your hands it won't bother you at all.. but only your hands, no further than the wrists! Seeing is believing!!! Speaking now of the Spiaggia dei Conigli, I tell you that if you don't get there by sea (which you can't do), you have to walk for a stretch downhill of about 15 minutes, but afterwards the view literally takes your breath away.
In full view the Isola dei Conigli appears at once and right after it the stupendous sea where you can't wait to plunge in among all those fish that swim right up to the shore without fear. The very white and very beautiful beach further increases the sun exposure even if you stay under the parasol, and so you keep going for a dip to cool your skin as much as you can. Taking the perimeter road, which is also the panoramic one, besides seeing a great desert, at the 2 ends of the island there are the lighthouses, and one of these is located in the highest part, about 130 metres, where the coast is rugged and beautiful, where a kiss with your girlfriend/boyfriend always slips in. Continuing the loop you arrive near the village where the turtle rescue centre is.. worth seeing.
Once a week at Cala Madonna at a set time, where everyone can take part, they release back into the open sea those turtles that have recovered.. a unique emotion! Unfortunately holidays are always short and would never be enough. Luckily they exist and we also live for this, with the thought that we will return or that we will see other places worthy of your desire to live your freedom after a year of work. Bye everyone
