Description of Calcata:
"Calcata is a small municipality that, although only 40 km north of Rome, has managed to preserve its historical and natural heritage intact.
The cultural reality, on the other hand, was further enriched when, from the end of the 1970s, the current inhabitants took over from the original inhabitants of the Historic Center.
Coming from all over Italy and all over the world, attracted by nature and by the knowledge of the old inhabitants, who had lived in balance with that nature until a few years earlier, the new ones gave life, in the Historic Center and outside, to dozens of initiatives thus helping to give new impetus to the village."
It is a very particular medieval village full of charm. It is known as the village of artists. It is built on a small promontory near the waterfalls of Monte Gelato.
It is an excellent opportunity for a day trip, reachable also via the very scenic Via Cassia.
Possibility of art exhibitions, excellent taverns/restaurants, characteristic little shops.
