A long weekend on Elba Island by sailboat with an extension to the island of Capraia
This year, as usual, we renew among friends the appointment with the sailing weekend and choose Elba Island as our destination. What better island to find crystal-clear sea and, all in all, also a bit of life in the towns and bars.
We rented the boat at the port of Rosignano Marittima near Livorno. The port is very large and new and the charter company has some nice boats available. This year it is the turn of Zazie nel metro, a fine example of a Beneteau 39-footer.
The choice of Elba was made both on the basis of the good offer for the boat and to find a bit of life in the tourist spots and also to go and visit the island of Capraia, long in our minds.
The places visited on Elba were Porto Azzurro and Marina di Campo.
Porto Azzurro is a pretty little harbour inside a cove on the island. Here there is a large square with many bars and restaurants.
Marina di Campo is a small little harbour where you can find a lovely avenue full of little shops and restaurants / ice-cream parlours, ideal for an evening of leisurely strolls.
At Capraia, a notably smaller island, once moored in the port we went up to the village and enjoyed the enchanting tranquillity of the place.
The bay at Capraia where we stopped to swim was truly beautiful, with transparent water and clearly visible seabed.
Total hours of sailing about 24 - We sailed almost always under sail, thanks to a really good wind.
