THE FIRST TRIP OF THE NEW YEAR. A stay in GUBBIO at the Hotel Relais Ducale, beautiful rooms right beside the Palazzo Ducale. A visit to GUBBIO, with its splendid Nativity scenes: worth noting is the S. Martino district, with the streets turned into a nativity scene with life-size statues, and the PARCO DELLA VITTORINA, on the lawn surrounding the CHURCH of S. MARIA DELLA VITTORIA, with scenes set up with moving figures. Worth visiting is the SANCTUARY OF S. UBALDO. In the evening, a splendid view of the world's largest Christmas tree. Day trips to FRASASSI, about an hour's drive away, with a visit to the splendid caves, and to FABRIANO with an interesting tour of the PAPER MUSEUM, in the town centre. A cheerful event on 6 January from the PALAZZO DEI PRIORI: the FIREFIGHTER'S BEFANA.
