Conigli Beach, Lampedusa, Sicily
With topaz-coloured sea and a bay set within a sloping, rocky coast, Conigli Beach on Lampedusa is a special place that never fails to charm visitors with its immense beauty. Nicknamed the "rabbit beach", it lies in a nature reserve on the remote island of Lampedusa, south of Sicily.
Sea turtles return here year after year to lay their eggs in the warmth of the sands - in fact the beach closes in the evening to let the turtles return safely.
This breathtaking beach may have been voted the best beach in the world, but it isn't easy to reach. Access to Conigli Beach requires a two-kilometre scramble over the rocks, but you'll be rewarded with a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear water. This beach is perfect for snorkelling; you'll be able to see the sea turtles with all the tranquillity this enchanting place instils in you.
