The story

On foot or by bike, all roads lead to the good food of the Ovada hills. This year the event takes place with an eye on the Giro Rosa stage that will pass through Ovada on 7 July 2018

After the enormous success of previous editions, the lively “feast gathering” of the Pro Loco associations and Associations of the Ovada area returns to Piazza Martiri della Benedicta, during which it will be possible to have a first taste of the most interesting summer festivals and fairs and discover the many culinary attractions that the territory of Alto Monferrato offers.

On Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 May 2018 the fourteenth edition of the food and wine review Paesi e Sapori will take place. During the event each of the participating Proloco associations and Associations will offer a typical dish, thus promoting, with the universal language of taste, the territory and the festivals that will be held in the area during the summer period.

The food stalls will open on Saturday 19 May 2018 from 18.30, beginning the tasting of the many specialities accompanied by local wines, in particular Dolcetto D.O.C. and OVADA D.O.C.G. In the evening the public will be entertained by the “Per un pugno di mollica” band.

Sunday morning will be dedicated to the international women's cycling race Giro Rosa, which will stop in Ovada on 7 July. The audience of Paesi e Sapori will be able to get a taste of the atmosphere of the race thanks to the “Pedalando in bicicletta” event, which will offer bicycle games for children, involving a group of girls with a passion for two wheels who will put on cycling demonstrations. The international women's Giro d'Italia will start on 6 July from Verbania and reach Ovada, which will represent the second stage of the route, the following day. The race will finish in Cividale del Friuli on 15 July.

On Sunday the food stalls will reopen at 12.00 for lunch and at 18.00 for dinner. In the afternoon, at 16.00 the Schiumaparty is scheduled, while the evening entertainment will be provided by the ASD Mamborico group which, after a flash mob, will put on its musical show starting at 19.00.

Also this year the French municipality of Point Saint Esprit will be a guest of the event.

All the good things you will be able to taste:

Pro Loco Battagliosi/Albareto – Fiazein (old-style focaccino) Pro Loco Cassinelle – Mixed roast with potatoes Pro Loco Cimaferle – Cheese focaccia Pro Loco Costa e Leonessa – Fritters and fried potatoes Pro Loco Montaldo Bormida – Farinata Pro Loco Ovada – Bar Pro Loco Trisobbio – Stuffed polenta flatbreads ANSPI Oratorio Silvano d'Orba – Homemade sweets ASD Tagliolese CCRT – Agnolotti Ass. Insieme per Castelletto – Mixed fried fish Croce Verde Ovadese Onlus - Testaroli Polisportiva Rocca Grimalda – Lasagne in the Peirbuieira U.S. Moretti 70 – Sheep skewers with panisette

Ovada and the municipalities of the Ovada area are located in a singular zone, on the border between Liguria and Piedmont. This geographical and historical characteristic of the territory is also reflected in its culinary traditions, which are a true union between these two wonderful lands. The specialities of Monferrato thus combine with the delicious dishes of Ligurian peasant cooking, such as for example farinata. Among the starters of the area the most important are the vegetables in bagna caoda, the raw meat minced with a knife, the anchovies in green sauce, the vitello tonnato, the fresh mushroom salads and the ever-present cured meats. Then it is the agnolotti that reign among the first courses, with a thin sheet and a filling based on meat and, of course, borage, to be eaten with sauce or “white” in a steaming cup of Dolcetto d'Ovada wine.

Other typical dishes of the Ovada area are the vegetable ravioli, tajarin with mushrooms, the peirbureira of Rocca Grimalda, polenta dressed in various ways, once a single dish and today sought after again. In the Easter period the andarini are unmissable, tiny flour gnocchi to be eaten in broth. In season, mushrooms prepared and cooked in various ways dominate the main courses. To these are added the mixed boiled meats, game, roasts, green pies with wild herbs, stuffed cime, boiled capon with green sauce, the Piedmontese mixed fry.
