The story

A wonderfully colourful festival to spend a day among games and fun on an authentic farm in the Ligurian hinterland

The first time riding a fine horse and the last chance, at least for this year, to watch the wheat threshing done with old machinery that you may be admiring for the first time in your life. As the last day of summer approaches, in Sassello, the first Italian town to be awarded the Touring Club's Orange Flag, a big festival is held with the children, who will be able to say goodbye to the last haystack while experiencing many emotions for the first time. So the last day will become the first, to be spent among plenty of fun and irresistible games.

On Saturday 20 August children are expected at the Agriturismo Romano Francesco in Sassello, on an authentic farm inhabited by a great many animals, which for the occasion of the Children's Festival will turn into a real amusement park where the little ones can discover the most interesting and curious aspects of country life playing all together.

The rich programme features the threshing of the last paiè, that is the last haystack left, the saddle baptism for the little ones, the horse show with the very skilful “show girls” of the Le Rocce riding school, not to mention the tasting of the farm's genuine produce and the fun evening with live music.

Seeing the old threshing machine in action will be an exciting experience for adults and children alike, both for those who have never seen such a thing and for those who will find in that river of golden ears the memory of far-off summers spent at their grandparents'. The children who will be left open-mouthed at the sight of the highly skilled horsewomen of the Le Rocce riding school can immediately try to follow in their footsteps thanks to the saddle baptism.

The festival will also be a delicious opportunity to taste a range of genuine, zero-mile specialities. At lunch and dinner you can savour the typical dishes of the farmer and delight in treats such as potato focaccini, ravioli del plin, mixed boiled meats with little sauces, polenta with meat and mushroom ragù, grilled sausage and much more.
