The Straw Bale Palio - Ovada (Alessandria), Friday 25 July 2014

When it gets hot you feel like laughing at all the nonsense you hear around... But anyone lucky enough to pop over to Ovada on the evening of Friday 25 July will have a lot more fun: they will in fact be able to attend an evening in which the bales, big ones, will even roll through the streets of the old town, accompanied by the cheerfulness of the crowd. In fact one of the most original and entertaining events of the Alto Monferrato summer is coming back: the Palio delle Balle di Paglia (Palio of the Straw Bales), organised by the Pro Loco of Ovada and of Monferrato Ovadese and now in its seventh edition. It is a fun race during which several teams compete in skill, having to cross the streets of Ovada's old town pushing enormous straw bales. The fastest competitors clearly win, but fun is guaranteed for everyone, both for the participants and for the audience.

Cheering on the teams grappling with the straw bales will also be an opportunity for the people of Ovada to experience their city in a different way, while tourists can discover the most carefree face of Ovada, immersing themselves in the suggestive atmospheres of the characteristic streets of the old town. The Ovada summer, however, does not end here: on Friday 15 August the famous Antiques and Second-hand Market Fair returns too, with numerous exhibitors and stalls full of objects all to be discovered.
