Salento and the Itria Valley

September is the ideal month to visit Salento: few people, pleasant warmth, warm water and low prices. We stayed in Torre dell'Orso in a residence, and then every day we set off to discover a different area, from the coast north of Porto Cesareo to the marina of Lecce; we travelled the whole coastal road, without neglecting the beautiful inland towns. I highly recommend it! Unfortunately, as in the rest of Italy, there's a widespread belief that public property isn't everyone's, as it should be, but nobody's, and so the free beaches and in general all non-private areas, such as roads or parks, look like open-air dumps! But if we look beyond this unpleasant side of our Italianness, we discover a nature, a humanity and a craftsmanship that deserve to be known.
