Lago di Caldonazzo, lago di Carezza, lago di Molveno
Day 113 Jul 2013
LAGO DI CALDONAZZO, NOVA LEVANTE
We leave by motorbike from the province of Varese for Nova Levante at around 8.00 after having checked the weather forecast over and over again, to be sure of finding good weather. But already in Bergamo we are proven wrong. A sudden downpour surprises us and forces us to stop under a highway bridge and put on our rain gear. Fortunately the bad weather passes quickly but the trip is still too long. Only around 13.00 do we manage to reach our first stop: Lake Caldonazzo. We decide to stop for lunch at the beautiful Lido di Caldonazzo, a nice equipped beach with piers where you can easily swim in very clean water. Our little table is practically right on the lakeshore and we like it very much.
We eat a typical "schiacciata trentina" and then get back on the road toward Nova Levante where we have booked through booking.com at the hotel Central. The hotel is a nice 3-star, with very spacious rooms complete with their own little courtyard, a simple outdoor pool and a beautiful buffet of desserts at snack time. As soon as we arrive though, exhausted from the fatigue, we notice that our room doesn't close. So they change our room. Apart from this initial mishap, everything else is ok. We rest a bit and then go to warm up in the small (and a bit spartan) pool, but still useful. We notice right in front of our hotel a restaurant-pizzeria (Mondschein) with outdoor tables overlooking the beautiful covered bridge of Nova Levante. We order 2 pizzas and buckwheat cake with cream, for dessert. The food is good but the service terrible. The prices are however low and so it's fine with us.
After dinner we walk under the covered bridge and admire the river and the little waterfalls below. Beyond the bridge, there is that evening a typical Tyrolean country festival that we visit with pleasure. We particularly appreciate the performance of the boys of the Tyrolean dance troupe: 8 young and handsome Tyrolean boys who do real acrobatics. Very good. We then return to the hotel for our well-deserved rest.
Nova Levante - hotel Post Cavallino
Day 214 Jul 2013
LAGO DI CAREZZA, MOLVENO
Breakfast at our hotel Central is not bad at all. We recommend it to you even though we find it more suitable for a summer stay. For a possible winter ski stay we recommend the nearby Hotel Post Cavallino, where we stayed last winter for our usual weekend on the snow. This latter hotel, Hotel Post, is equipped with a heated indoor and outdoor pool (usable even in winter) as well as a large wellness area. First stop of the day the beautiful Lake Carezza which is right at the end of Nova Levante. The beauty of this lake is astonishing. The color of the waters, particularly transparent, is an incredible blue. We read the story of the lake which is fed by underground springs that guarantee the purity and transparency of the water up to 17 mt. of depth. There is also the legend of a nymph who lives on the rocks of the lake.
We then stop at Ponte Nova at a pretty little sport fishing pond, in a very pleasant environment with lots of colorful flowers and a pretty bar-restaurant overlooking it. We then continue to Molveno. The temperature is very high that day and, as we descend in altitude, we start to suffer from the heat. We arrive in Molveno at exactly 12, where a very lively little town awaits us (perhaps too crowded with tourists, being Sunday) and a beautiful large blue lake. We decide to walk along the quietest end of the lake (the small lake) and then move to the more touristy part of the town, that is the one with the beach, to make a brief stop for lunch.
Right after lunch, around 14, we get back on the road. The km. to cover are many; the heat is crazy and, on the highway there are always queues due to accidents. Exhausted, we arrive home shortly after 18.00. An undoubtedly positive experience but very tiring. Perhaps we should have calculated the km. and the stops better to make the whole trip more comfortable. Anyway, these lovely weekends, will tire the body a lot but how much they refresh the spirit!!!
