TRANSPORT Round trip with a change at Milano Centrale. In hindsight... I'd do it again. You sacrifice a little flexibility in arrival and departure times but you gain in relaxation.

ACCOMMODATION Small but Magnificent double room in the Cannaregio sestiere: Residenza Ca' Riccio in the campiello Widman area - Chiesa dei Miracoli. 10 minutes from St Mark's Square and 15 minutes from Santa Lucia Station. If you arrive by vaporetto get off at Fondamenta Nuove. It is not a pensione or a hotel but a few double rooms in a delightful setting. Breakfast served in bed. The hosts are extremely kind and very helpful.

MISCELLANEOUS: If you can find it I strongly recommend an evening at the osteria do Spade near the fish market in the Sestiere Santa Croce. Warm and unforgettable atmosphere. 1 Ombra at 0.60 euros

COSTS Cost of a seat round trip with booking 45 euros per person. Cost of Ca' Riccio 50 euros per night per person.

CLIMATE: Ideal for Venice, light mist without rain.
