The story
Montesarchio, in the province of Benevento, lies in the heart of the Caudina Valley. Not far from the town centre stands ancient Caudium, one of the most important Samnite centres, whose necropolis has yielded important archaeological finds dating from the 7th century BC to the 1st century AD, now housed inside the vast medieval castle (see photo), restored to its former glory.
