Alberobello is a town in the Murge made up largely of trulli, which give it notable architectural interest. The Monumental area has over 1000 trulli, grouped together and lined up along the steep, winding little streets that climb the hill in a very picturesque whole. Above the low walls rise the tall conical roofs, each topped with a pinnacle of limestone. On some roofs, writings or religious symbols or designs in local taste are traced with lime wash.
North of Bari and more precisely near the town of Bisceglie, there is the Dolmen of Chianca, dating back about 3500 years and one of the major megalithic monuments of Puglia. The monument consists of three enormous stone slabs set upright, covered by a fourth slab of equal size resting horizontally on the first three, so as to form with them a square chamber open on the side facing east.
