The story
CUMAE, in the north of the Campanian coast, was founded in the 8th century BC by the Chalcidians of Euboea. The imposing archaeological park lies at the foot of and above a hill of trachytic lava; the walls, in squared blocks of tuff, enclosed an area of quadrilateral shape, the so-called lower city. The archaeological park includes the acropolis and a part of the lower city, where the Forum, the Tomb of the Sibyl, the Arch of Felice and the Amphitheatre are also found.
