The story
The Eneolithic necropolis of the Madonna delle Grazie came to light recently. It is of notable importance both for its dating (second half of the 2nd millennium BC) and for the richness and typology of its grave goods. It is a complex of "oven" tombs, elliptical in plan inside, with an entrance from a circular well; the tombs are dug into the soft tuff bank. Beside the inhumed remains, substantial grave goods were found, consisting of pottery, lithic artefacts and rare metal objects. Many of the finds are kept in the Irpino Museum in Avellino.
