The story

I arrived with a friend on this island in the middle of the Irish Sea from the British port of Heysham. The raid on Man is an integral part of a wide tour of Great Britain made with a Fiat Tempra. Leaving the car at Heysham, we arrive very early in the morning at the port of the capital, Douglas, greeted by a violent downpour. We shelter from the rain and the gusts of wind first inside the port area, then under the shop awnings of the nearby shopping centre. When the shower stops and a few timid rays of sun appear, we visit the town, walking along the main street lined with numerous shops. We visit an Anglican church, then stop in a large well-appointed bookshop. Here you can browse a book while comfortably seated drinking a tea.

Douglas doesn't have much to offer and we came all this way just to be able to say we'd set foot on this independent island, even though it belongs to the British Crown. Wandering around the modern capital we didn't come across any cats, let alone the ones famous for being tailless. Before taking to the sea again with the ferry to Great Britain we took a walk along the seafront avenue, where meanwhile the sun was shining but the wind was still blowing. At the end of a day of continual weather changes we left the Isle of Man, a destination certainly not worth much.
