I certainly won't be of much help to anyone planning to go to Ireland to discover this quiet and interesting country.
In fact, the chance I had to spend a few days in Dublin, I certainly didn't make the most of it, neither for taking a few photos nor for visiting anything in particular......but only to have my first experience abroad for my work...!!
By now too many years have passed and the memories, mostly faded, are refreshed only by a few postcards and a local banknote. Certainly, what I still can't forget today are some anecdotes and the simple everyday things I experienced in Ireland.
First of all, the first encounter of my life with driving on the left.......just out of the airport I head for the taxi....I open the door and the taxi driver....."Do you want to drive???" The carefree, light-hearted way the Irish live things....we're 150 km south of Dublin...we arrive with yet another taxi, struggling, on the edge of the hill, and the driver..."we've run out of petrol.....well, luckily the downhill starts...."; we travelled at least a kilometre on momentum and...luckily there was a petrol station on the horizon!! The pubs and the beer...sacred stuff! No later than 16/16.30 in the afternoon, after a "tiring" day of work, everyone drinking an as-yet-undetermined number of pints of beer....dark Guinness of course......maybe it's that I'm not a big drinker, nor that I particularly like dark beer......but that thick drink I must have left almost entirely in the glass!! The ce
ntre of Dublin, so tidy, clean and...Bono's pub, the U2 one....I only saw it from the outside........
I'm left with the feeling that Ireland is a country to visit sooner or later....with those green stretches and hills, with those castles you glimpse on the horizon, its cliffs, its salmon and.....its beer!!
