Budapest is a city that you absolutely must visit at least once in your lifetime. The visit to the Buda hills is a must, and the panorama you get from the Fisherman's Bastion, the castle and above all the Citadel really is a fine sight. The bunker of the Citadel struck me in particular: here you find several mannequins of soldiers and a very interesting photographic collection of Budapest during the Second World War. In Pest, on the other hand, the Parliament and the tour of its interior are absolutely not to be missed. Admission is free for citizens of the European Union. The streets of the centre, meanwhile, are full of churches, palaces and squares, each more beautiful than the last. The riverside is very beautiful too. Don't miss Heroes' Square either, the Museum of Fine Arts and Vajdahunyad Castle. The city is very much alive at night as well.
As for safety, the city is on the same standard as other European cities.
