Starting the year at the Vatican Museums

We said to ourselves, but with all the times we've been to Rome, is it possible that I've never seen the Vatican Museums, OK this time we're going to visit them, the rest we'll see. So early on we were already queuing along the streets next to the Museums' entrance, a queue so long I'd only seen one like it for the Louvre and never on other occasions apart, of course, from boarding the bus to take part in the New York marathon.
