Athens and the island of Evia. First day, arrival at 12, we visit Syntagma Square, with the Parliament building and the monument to the unknown soldier; the Acropolis, Plaka. We're in a nice hotel near Omonia Square: even though we hired a car at the airport, we get around perfectly well by metro. The only problem: Alitalia lost our suitcases. The second day the luggage arrives. We decide to make a trip to Corinth (a little over an hour's drive on a comfortable motorway): we cross the strait on a tourist boat. In the afternoon we return to Athens and visit the Olympic stadium, Lycabettus and Piraeus. The third day is dedicated to the children: we go to the PLAYMOBIL play park where naturally we do some shopping. After 3-4 hours of fun we set off again for ERETRIA on the island of EVIA.
The island can be reached even without a ferry, by extending the route by about forty kilometres, via the fine bridge that connects the mainland to Chalkida. In ERETRIA we stayed for a week at the PALMARIVA HOTEL (ALPITOUR): a beautiful complex, excellent sports facilities, good food, terrible entertainment. The hotel is frequented by groups, Italian and French, of a certain age, so the little entertainment on offer had been tailored to this type of guest. Opportunity to make excursions to Athens (a little over 1 hour), to MARATHON, to DELPHI and to METEORA (almost 4 hours). We set off again, still with ALITALIA, on 8 September: this time no problem with the luggage.
