This is the fourth time I've been to this beautiful island. I can say I know it inside out. First of all, I'd advise booking a hotel in the east of the island, unless you're a surfer; oh yes, this is one of Rhodes' great peculiarities. In the east the sea is calm, while in the west it's rough. Wherever you book, though, you can't miss going to the far south of the island, where you'll see a strange phenomenon: the clashing seas! If you're lucky you might be there at low tide and walk along the centre; you'll see on the sand the effects of these two different currents. I repeat, not to be missed! Faliraki is the island's entertainment centre, with open-air clubs and bars. I'd recommend one place: the Queen club, it has 3 rooms, truly great. In Rhodes town there's the only Catholic church, St Francis of Assisi, near the port.
Driving here is very easy, you can't get lost, there's a single big road on the east side that connects everything. For those who love distinctive spots like Capri, I'd recommend going to Lindos, though it's infernally hot there, be prepared! The sea, though, is a dream. In the centre of the island there's the Valley of the Butterflies, a unique spectacle; everything is covered with butterflies, from the trees to the water of the little lake. As for food, try the Moussaka, a kind of aubergine parmigiana, and the local goat's cheeses, which have a different taste from what we Italians are used to enjoying. So, happy holidays to everyone and... see you on the next trip!
